Job Description:

The Cornell University Library, Hospitality, Labor and Management (HLM) Library seeks a Service Desk Manager to provide administrative and technical support for the HLM Management Library Team. Under the general direction of the Assistant Director for Access and Administrative Services, manage circulation activities including operation of the student employment program. Participate as a member of the back-up team for the the Management and Catherwood circulation desks and in special projects or general department operations as needs arise. The work schedule for this position will change as the library changes its schedule, however, nights and weekends (Sunday – Thursday) are part of the normal schedule. Expected to maintain and promote the HLM Library’s core values of collaboration, excellence, flexibility, innovation, integrity and service.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelors degree or equivalent combination of education, experience and/or training.
Two or more years of library public services or administrative experience.
Strong self-motivation, ability to exercise judgment and self-direction while also working within established guidelines and procedures.
Ability to work independently and without close supervision, as well as work cooperatively with others.
Ability to analyze problems and consult with others to make appropriate judgments.
Consistency in and aptitude for detailed work.
Working knowledge of a broad range of computer hardware and software.
Excellent organizational skills, ability to work well under pressure and handle multiple simultaneous demands.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and demonstration of excellent customer service orientation.
Fluent English language skills (both oral and written).

Preferred:

Familiarity with library-based software, such as Voyager or Ares.
Five or more years of previous social sciences library experience, or experience working with graduate students in a library setting.
Web skills or experience with HTML.
