On Friday, September 14, join your fellow special collections librarians and staff at the Special Collections Research Center (SCRC) at Syracuse University for the very first Central New York Special Collections Roundtable Discussion (and yes, the name of this roundtable is up for discussion!).
At this inaugural meeting, we simply plan to introduce and organize ourselves, exchange ideas on issues, concerns, innovations, or techniques, either shared or unique, from various special collections repositories and look to our peers in the room for their insight and questions. We also look forward to a tour of the SCRC from a member of the staff.
|10am – 10:15am:||Welcome, from CLRC Asst. Director, Deirdre Joyce and a member of the SU SCRC staff.|
|10:15 – 11:15:||Introductions and discussion|
|11:15 – 11:30:||Ideas for next meeting (location, date, etc.)|
|11:30 – 12: 30:||Tour of special collections from SCRC staff|
|12:30 – 2pm:||Lunch at one of the many eating establishments close by. (If turnout is sufficiently large, we will make reservations)|
While this first meeting will be held in Syracuse, we would like to plan to hold them periodically in other locations throughout Central New York, including the Rochester and South Central areas, as well as appropriate locations within the Northern New York Library Network. The idea of the roundtable format is to allow for informal discussion, networking, idea sharing, etc. Moreover, it is meant to be participant driven, so discussion topics and locations will be chosen by you and facilitated by the appropriate council.
So we know that you are planning to come, please register here.
This event is sponsored by the Central New York Library Resources Council, the Northern New York Library Network, the Rochester Regional Library Council, and the South Central Library Resources Council. The roundtable is open to special collections librarians or staff personnel operating anywhere within the State of New York.
