The William G. Pomeroy Foundation recently awarded the Solvay Public Library two grants to place historic markers in the Village of Solvay.

The markers are part of the library’s “Community Vitality” initiative.

One marker recognizes the “Solar Salt Industry” in the Village and is located on what was the Erie Canal on Bridge Street.

The second marker recognizes the first schoolhouse in Solvay, currently Pasta’s Pizza and Deli, and is placed across the street on the corner of Bridge Street and Milton Avenue.
