CLRC supports access to electronic database vendors for region libraries. CLRC works with database vendors and consolidators to offer many electronic resources to libraries in the Central New York Region. Some database subscriptions are supported in full or in part by grants through CLRC. Other databases are offered to subscribing libraries at reduced rates through these regional or statewide contracts. The following vendors offer many titles from a variety of database publishers for any CLRC member library or member of a school or public library system which is a member of CLRC.
NOVEL NOVEL (New York Online Virtual Electronic Library) provides the citizens of New York State with free online access to full-text articles, books and newspapers. NOVEL is funded by the federal Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) program through the New York State Library. Any library in New York State which is a member of a New York State library system, including CLRC, may directly register to offer access to the NOVEL databases for their customers. Encyclopedia Britannica Britannica Online is available to all public, school, academic, and non-profit libraries. FirstSearch Base Package FirstSearch is available free for any library in a system in the Central New York Region. FirstSearch is supported through a CLRC Regional Automation Grant. The “Route 13″ FirstSearch subscription also includes libraries in th e Southeastern and South Central regions. Newsbank Access to the backfiles of local newspapers is available at a subsidized price for any CLRC member library or member of a school or public library system which is a member of CLRC. The subsidy comes from a Regional Automation Grant. NY OGS – New York Office of General Services Some databases are offered on “New York State Contract.” For each vendor, price lists are included with the advice “prices outlined are maximum not to exceed prices. Contract users are encouraged to negotiate best and fin al pricing. Contract users should also note the volume aggregate discounts that apply to these contracts are listed in the terms and conditions document.” |
