Mann Library, the library to the College of Human Ecology and the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Cornell University, seeks a part-time information assistant to staff the Reference Desk in a dynamic, interdisciplinary, and friendly work environment.
This is part-time (25 hours/week) position
Under the direction of the Reference and Information Services Coordinator, assist library users in searching public access bibliographic, numeric, and full-text databases. Provide a broad range of information and reference services, in person, over the telephone, via chat and via electronic mail. Provide support particularly for email questions from USDA patrons. Make consultation appointments and assist with special projects. Assist with reference desk scheduling and coverage, and maintain reference wiki. Assist with maintenance of the reference collection. May work some evenings and weekends.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Fast learner, able to deal with rapidly changing environment.
Computer competence, including facility with standard business software and the ability to learn to use new technologies.
Subject background in a discipline related to those served by Mann Library, e.g. agriculture, life sciences, human ecology or applied social sciences.
At least 1 year experience in a public services position in an academic library, or equivalent.
