Job Description:

Part time.   Provides reference assistance and information literacy instruction to library patrons, including students, faculty, staff, and community members. Performs other duties as assigned. This is a part-time position. Schedule may include evening and weekend hours and occasional travel to campus centers. Transportation is required.

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum of a Masters Degree in Library/Information Science from an ALA-accredited program required.

Experience in an academic library preferred. Proficient reference skills and information literacy instruction experience desired.

Excellent communication and public service skills; demonstrated ability to work effectively with students, faculty, staff, and library patrons.

Demonstrated skill with use of current library and educational technologies, and experience with software and hardware used in academic libraries.

Must be able to demonstrate a strong commitment to diversity and work with diverse student, faculty, staff, and community clientele.

Provide leadership in assessment from developing a program to communicating results.  This position is part of a team of librarians providing reference and instruction services to the campus community.  Guide online library instruction for students using the appropriate technology and methods of online pedagogy.

Approximately 20 hours per week, 12 month position, flexibility required

Position Duties:

Coordinate assessment of library instruction and services by gathering data, preparing reports, monitoring progress, developing instruments, etc.
Participate in campus assessment activities, such as cooperating with other departments, working with campus assessment software, participating in committees.
Maintain currency with trends and developments in assessment.
Communicate with faculty and guide students in online and satellite programs and other programs as needed.

The Watervliet Public Library is seeking an energetic, visionary leader with a deep commitment to public library service for its Director.  Serving a constituency of over 10,000 the Library is governed by five trustees and its total operating costs total over $55,000. The Library is currently engaged in a building project for a new 1,000+ s.f. expansion to the facility. In the past five years circulation, library visits, and program attendance have all significantly increased. We are looking for a Director to continue this upward trajectory and lead us to new successes.

Position Duties:

The Library Director holds primary responsibility for the operation and management of the Library. Duties include financial management, public relations, personnel management, fundraising, grant writing and participation in promotion and programming intended to improve library services to our community.

Minimum Qualifications:

MLS or MLIS from an ALA-accredited university,

public library experience (urban library experience a plus),

previous supervisory experience as a manager,

knowledge of library automation, technology, social media,

experience with fundraising, grant writing and budget management.

Flexibility, communication skills, and a positive and professional attitude are a must.

Salary & Benefits:

25-30 hours per week. Salary $22,500 commensurate with experience.
