Must be able to work evenings (5:00 – 9:00) and Sunday (12:30 – 5:00)
Under the supervision of the Assistant Director, this position performs a variety of duties related
Assists with opening and closing procedures under the direction of the staff member in charge
Sorts, shelves, and shifts various library materials accurately according to library classification systems (alphabetic, numeric, and alphanumeric)
Empties book drops several times a day
Reads shelves for accuracy and re-shelves misplaced items
Under the supervision of a library staff member, checks library materials in and out at the circulation desk, collects fines and other payments and registers library patrons using an automated circulation system
Answers library patrons’ directional questions and directs other questions to appropriate staff
Answers telephones; provides routine information and directs incoming calls to appropriate staff
Registers patrons for library programs using online calendar software
Retrieves library materials from shelves for library staff and patrons
Provides assistance to patrons in the use of copiers, computers, printers and other public equipment
Accepts donations and issues receipts
Carries out other duties, as assigned
Knowledge of or ability to learn library filing and shelving rules

This includes checking materials in and out using Aleph, accounting for our Closed Reserve items and study room keys as well as maintaining an inviting and secure facility conducive to meeting our students’ needs.
Library Student Assistants will also have the opportunity to learn and expand their skills through participation in special projects as assigned.
Student Assistants may also have the opportunity to cross-train at the Family Resource Center located in Golisano Children’s Hospital if interested.
We are seeking candidates available to work night/weekend shifts 10-20+ hours/week.

Rochester Regional Library Council
The Rochester Regional Library Council (RRLC) seeks a librarian to perform various grant-funded duties, including coordination and training related to RRLC digital services, New York Heritage and New York State Historic Newspapers. Also provides training for RRLC’s highly regarded Continuing Education program. The individual selected for this position will become an important team member of one of the leading library systems in New York State.
1. New York Heritage: Project manager and liaison for RRLC participation, including: training and advising members on software and digitization practices, working with the Outreach Librarian to develop training classes on New York Heritage, coordinating the New York Heritage Local Steering Committee, working with statewide NY Heritage Committee, assessing member library collections for quality and adherence to standards, recruiting new participants, and marketing and promoting the site.
2. NYS Historic Newspapers: Project manager and liaison for RRLC participation, including: planning and prioritizing for digitization of newspapers, working with and advising members on newspaper selection, acting as liaison with the Northern New York Library Network (project host), and assisting with marketing and promotion of the site.
3. Training and teaching: Provides training on emerging technologies, social media, and other topic areas as needed. Serves as backup technology support for the RRLC training room, including troubleshooting problems.
4. Performs other duties as required to carry out the mission of RRLC.
