Job Description:
The Capital District Library Council (CDLC), located in Albany, NY, is seeking a dynamic, creative and self-starting individual to fill the newly-created position of Program and Communications Manager. This individual will provide leadership and support for CDLC member libraries, services, programs, committees and activities. The Manager collaborates with CDLC’s Executive Director and staff on all aspects of Council operations.
Position Duties:
Primary focus of the position will be on program administration; communications, including promoting the image and services of the Council; and council administration and operations.
Minimum Qualifications:
Necessary qualifications include an MLIS degree or equivalent;
at least three years of experience in a related field;
and flexibility and willingness to evolve with changing organizational structure.
Familiarity with the library environment and supervisory experience are preferred.

Job Description:
Assume a vital leadership role and assist the 48 public libraries in this southern region of New York State achieve new levels of service and effective resource sharing! The Board of Trustees of the Southern Tier Library System (headquartered in Painted Post, NY) seeks a visionary library leader—responsive to member and community needs and skilled in focusing the efforts of a team of talented professionals—as its next Executive Director. STLS is a regional consortium of public libraries in Allegany, Chemung, Schuyler, Steuben and Yates counties–working in partnership with member libraries to enable the System’s 256,291 residents to have access to excellent library services. Position Duties:
The Executive Director serves as the chief executive officer of the Library System, and under the general direction of the 15-member Board of Trustees, has overall responsibility for general administration of System operations. The Executive Director supervises Department Heads, the Youth Services Consultant and administrative staff—and works with the Board, staff, member libraries, and major stakeholders to establish the strategic vision for the System aligning its mission, with member library and community needs and priorities.
This is complex executive work planning, directing, managing and overseeing the activities and operations of the System. The Executive Director has wide latitude for independent judgment, decision and action. See the Executive Director’s position description for additional details.
Minimum Qualifications:
An ALA-accredited Master’s Degree in Library Science;
the ability to obtain and retain a New York State Public Librarian Certificate 1;
and a minimum of eight years of experience in public libraries or public library systems, including three years of which must have been in an administrative capacity.
Essential attributes and skills include: vision, creativity, energy and enthusiasm;
superior written and oral communications skills;
demonstrated success in effectively promoting library services;
thorough knowledge of library technology innovations and efficiencies;
political acumen; collaborative and consensus-building skills;
experience in recruiting, mentoring, evaluating and retaining an excellent staff;
and a thorough knowledge of current trends and “best practices” for library and system services.
Eight years of post-MLS library experience and proven success working effectively as a director with a policy-making board are highly desirable.
Salary & Benefits:
Compensation. The hiring salary range is $80,000-100,000 (with placement being dependent on experience and qualifications) with an attractive benefits package.

Job Description:
Work as a member of the Joint Automation (JA) Project staff to provide library automation and computer support to the 48 member libraries of the Mohawk Valley and Southern Adirondack Library Systems. This position reports to the Joint Automation Project Manager.
Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:30 – 4:30 On call evenings and weekends approximately one week per month. Occasional additional evenings and/or weekend hours as needed. Start Date: June 2013
The Mohawk Valley Library System is a state-funded, cooperative public library system serving public libraries in Fulton, Montgomery, Schenectady and Schoharie Counties. The Southern Adirondack Library System is a state-funded, cooperative public library system serving public libraries in Hamilton, Saratoga, Warren and Washington Counties.
Position Duties:
Provide telephone, e-mail and on-site support to member library staff, system staff and public users on the integrated library automation software, MVLS/SALS web catalog and online databases.
Provide telephone, e-mail and on-site support to member library staff for computer hardware, software, LAN and WAN issues.
Perform routine user account, security and policy file maintenance for the integrated library automation software.
Perform routine user account maintenance, distribution list maintenance, support and training on SALS/MVLS e-mail software.
Run routine and special request reports for member library and system staff.
Perform some PC installation, hardware maintenance, troubleshooting.
Provide support and diagnostics for PCs, including viruses and malware.
Perform network installation, configuration, maintenance and troubleshooting of local area and wide area network equipment at 59 sites.
Perform routine operational tasks on MVLS/SALS servers.
Participate in the SALS/MVLS user’s group meetings and any other JA meetings, as needed.
Work independently and as a team member on a variety of projects and problem resolutions, from planning stages through implementation.
Update standard network, Cassie and PC documentation and support call database to record changes made and tasks performed.
Monitor and load tapes for daily backups on all MVLS/SALS servers.
Monitor backups on all MVLS/SALS servers one weekend per month.
Monitor evening and weekend network outages one week per month.
Occasional evening and/or weekend work required.
May require lifting up to 50 lbs.
New York State driver’s license required.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Associates degree in Computer Science or equivalent work experience.
Microsoft Windows and Office product experience, as well as experience with Internet browsers, plug-ins and their configuration.
Personal computer hardware knowledge, including experience configuring and/or repairing PCs, PC components and printers.
Understanding of local area networking (TCP/IP), including wireless network setup and troubleshooting.
Active Directory domain/subdomain experience a plus.
Ability to communicate with users of varying degrees of experience and knowledge in a clear, concise and patient manner.
Ability to work on multiple tasks and problems simultaneously.
Excellent oral, telephone and written communication skills.

North Country Library System

Job Description:
The North Country Library System is a State-supported public library cooperative serving sixty-five member public libraries in Jefferson, Lewis, St. Lawrence and Oswego Counties in Northern New York State. The NCLS building is situated on a five acre wooded lot on the Black River just outside of Watertown. A comprehensive renovation of the system headquarters was completed in 2007 and includes a state of the art 23 station computer training lab and meeting rooms with videoconferencing capabilities.
Work Week: Full Time, 37.5 hours per week, Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm. Occasional evenings and Saturdays as needed for Board/Library meetings.
Position Duties:
General Consultant for 20 – 30 small and medium sized public libraries.
Advise the staff and trustees of public libraries in many aspects of library operations such as policies and best practices, laws and regulations pertaining to public libraries, planning and administration.
Plan and conduct continuing education classes.
Provide new Library Directors and Trustees with orientation of roles and responsibilities, and NCLS services.
Educate library boards about funding and governance options and assist with funding campaigns.
Attend meetings and conferences for professional development.
Minimum Qualifications:
MLS or MLIS from ALA accredited library school.
At least five years experience in a public library.
Strong communication and writing skills.
Great attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects.
Ability to work well under pressure and to meet deadlines.
Valid New York State Driver’s License.
Residence in the Watertown area and willingness to travel widely across the system service area.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint.
Preferred:
Administrative experience in public libraries.
Experience working directly with library trustees and municipalities.
Familiarity with web content management systems such as Drupal.
Familiarity with SIRSI or other ILS.
Salary & Benefits:
Annual Salary and Benefits: Salary range: $40,692 – $57,132 dependent upon qualifications. Benefits include 15 paid vacation days per year (increases to 20 days after two years of employment); 13 paid sick days per year; 12 paid holidays per year; four day work weeks from June through August; Health insurance plus employer contributions to a personal Health Savings Account; NY State Employee Retirement Plan; supplemental insurance options.
