Last Wednesday (11/18) and Thursday (11/19), Assistant Director Deirdre Joyce exhibited at the SLS conferences for Central New York and Leatherstocking respectively. Our goals in exhibiting at both conferences were:

  • help support continuing education efforts of our SLS members by sponsoring exhibit booths
  • meet and greet with CLRC area school librarians and discuss CLRC services and how we can support them and their respective school library systems
  • give away a half-gallon of syrup to lucky winners for each event

We are pleased to report that we successfully met all goals.  Both conferences were amazing opportunities for the school library participants and we commend our colleagues at OCM BOCES SLS, Madison-Oneida BOCES SLS, and the Oneida/Herkimer BOCES SLS for pulling together such great events, featuring talented speakers like Eric Sheninger (speaking on Digital Leadership), Library Journal Mover & Shaker Shannon McClintock Miller (on giving students a voice), and library futurist Stephen Abrams. Everyone we spoke to was excited and energized, so kudos to organizers Doreen, Diana, and Pat!

During the exhibit periods, we met a number of enthusiastic school librarians and discussed CLRC projects and programs like CNYFi, cultural heritage outreach, and our upcoming Legislative Breakfasts (with more than a few sideways looks when we invited our library professionals to “speed date their legislator” on December 4th in Utica and December 11th in Syracuse.

And finally, we had two lucky winners in our door prizes:

Cindy Cannata holding her winning jug of syrup.

It was fun! And we hope to see all of our amazing school librarians again next year!
