Looking to get involved with your local library council? CLRC’s Board of Trustees is currently seeking individuals who are willing to run for three open positions on the Nominating Committee.

Each year, a new Nominating Committee is voted on by CLRC’s institutional membership (affiliate and full members only) to suggest names for seats on CLRC’s Board of Trustees. The purpose of the turnover is to encourage diversity and create pathways to leadership among the new and existing talent in the CLRC service area.

Members of the Nominating Committee join for a one-year commitment and work with the Immediate Past President of the Board of Trustees (and Chair of the Nominating Committee) to complete this work, also suggesting names for other CLRC standing or ad hoc committees, including Finance, Library Resources and Services, Legislative, Planning & Review and the Nominating Committee for 2018.

This year, the Nominating Committee will be seeking candidates to fill the following Board seats, serving a five year term from 2017-2022:

  • Academic Librarian – East

  • Academic Librarian – West

  • Public Librarian – West

The Committee will also be asked to review and endorse the suggestions for the Executive Committee, proposed by the committee Chair. These officers are formally voted on by the incoming Board of Trustees at a meeting following the election of the new Board of Trustees. The committee usually has a single in-person meeting, sometime in the summer, and most of the work is done by phone or email.

This is a great way to get involved with CLRC on a short-term committee which has a very important purpose.

Per the By-Laws of CLRC’s Board of Trustees, “[no] one shall serve on the Committee as a Voting Member for more than one term during a period of three years.”

Those interested in running for a seat on the Nominating Committee or with a suggestion of a Nominating Committee candidate may submit their information using the form we have set up here: https://goo.gl/forms/SRT4B1cLZdOJXx7E3, or send your information directly to the Chair of the CLRC Nominating Committee/CLRC Past-President – Cristina Pope, Director, SUNY Upstate Health Sciences Library. *Please submit by Friday, April 21.*

Questions may also be submitted to Jen Bort, CLRC Research and Development Librarian and liaison to the Nominating Committee.
