The Central New York Library Resources Council  and Empire State Digital Network (ESDN) are pleased to announce that digital materials from New York institutions are now available in the Digital Public Library of America (DPLA).

During the past year, CLRC has been collaborating with ESDN to facilitate the sharing of digital collections from member institutions to DPLA. In April, ESDN contributed a first batch of 90,000 metadata records from New York cultural heritage institutions to DPLA. Included in this initial contribution are records from New York Heritage, Hudson River Valley Heritage, Long Island Memories, and the New York State Library.

Central New York contributed over 5000 records from local member institutions participating in New York Heritage Digital Collections, including the following (listed in order of number of uploaded contributions):

These Central New York collections join more than 10 million items already available through DPLA.  We’re adding more every day!

For more information about how you can get involved, please contact CLRC’s Assistant Director and Digital Services Manager, Deirdre Joyce.

What’s Next?
Beginning in May 2015, the ESDN regional liaisons from around the state will begin soliciting new partners throughout the state. Phase 2 of the ESDN project timeline will focus on growing contributions in a sustainable and scalable way.

About ESDN
Empire State Digital Network (ESDN) is the New York service hub of the Digital Public Library of America (DPLA). The network is administered by the Metropolitan New York Library Council (METRO) in collaboration with eight allied regional library councils collectively working as NY 3Rs Association, Inc. Together, they provide the necessary personnel and technological infrastructure to contribute digital resources from hundreds of New York’s libraries, archives, museums, and cultural heritage institutions to the DPLA.

About DPLA
The Digital Public Library of America (http://dp.la) strives to contain the full breadth of human expression, from the written word, to works of art and culture, to records of America’s heritage, to the efforts and data of science. Since launching in April 2013, it has aggregated over 10 million items from libraries, archives and museums nationwide. The DPLA is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit.
