CDLC Webinar: News Media Literacy – Seeking and Finding the Truth in a Fake News World

June 14, 2021 @ 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm EDT

Seeing is believing, right? NOT NECESSARILY.  Increasingly technology is being used to spread misinformation and outright lies. What is the difference between photo enhancement and manipulation? Attend this presentation to find out some of the ways you can investigate if the visual information your accessing, particularly online, is real or manipulated.

About the Presenter: Mary Miller has been the Education Services Director for the New York Newspapers Foundation/New York News Publishers Association (NYNPA) since 2001.  Since creating the position, she has helped develop a growing library of News Media Literacy/Newspaper In Education (NIE) curricula and presentations. Her vision for News Media Literacy/NIE in New York State includes strategic partnerships with other organizations interested in providing others with easy-to-use tools to ultimately improve news media literacy.  Mary has increasingly used new and emerging technologies in her curriculum development and presentations. She has worked with the We the People and Project Citizen programs, serves on the steering committee of the New York State Family Engagement Coalition, the board of the Capital District Council for the Social Studies, and the executive board of the New York State Reading Association. The NYNPA News Media Literacy/NIE program has been recognized with numerous state, regional and national awards and continues to strive for increased engagement and understanding with emphasis on journalism.

This program is sponsored by CDLC’s Regional Automation Advisory Committee (RAAC).
