Free Digital Inclusion Webinar Series: What Every Library Needs to Know

Please join the New York State Library and the National Digital Inclusion Alliance (NDIA) for a series of information-rich training webinars aimed at increasing awareness and providing a deeper understanding of digital inclusion across New York State’s libraries and library systems.

Trainings in this series will include addressing digital equity barriers, building partnerships and coalitions, developing digital navigator programs, and collecting, analyzing, and using local data to conduct asset mapping. This training is intended for library workers from all types of libraries and their digital inclusion partners from other sectors, including schools and community based organizations.

Digital Equity Barriers and Strategies

Date: Tuesday, November 9, 2021, 11:00-12:30 PM Eastern

In this webinar, participants will gain a stronger understanding of digital equity, broadband technology basics, and how the gaps in broadband availability impact broadband options. Presenters will share solutions, including current and potential state and federal funding opportunities.

Partnerships and Coalitions

Date: Thursday, November 18, 2021, 11:00-12:30 PM Eastern

Using research-based partnership and coalition models, this webinar will provide New York State regional and local libraries with strategies for developing relationships with community partners to address digital inequities.

Digital Navigators (Parts 1 and 2)

Upon completion of this two-part webinar, participants will gain in-depth knowledge of the Digital Navigator model and its associated tools, its impact, and how this field-tested program can be added to a library’s existing portfolio of services.

Data Collection and Analysis

Asset Mapping

Participants in this webinar will learn how to gather local asset information and visualize social characteristics of the digital divide on local, regional, and state levels using publicly available data and analysis tools.

Attendance at these webinars is required for any libraries or library systems participating in a Reference and Research Library Resources Councils (3Rs) American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) -funded digital inclusion initiative project. Webinars also count toward public librarian certification professional development requirements.
