Library Security and Privacy 101 or Is There Really Any Privacy?

Event Description:
This is a starter session for librarians and librarian-adjacent staff (that means everyone who works in a library) who want to know more about personal and patron privacy and information security.
This class is designed for a cybersecurity and privacy beginner who fills any role in your library.
The workshop will explain and show you:
* How do you explain to your customers (and your fellow staff) the importance of information vigilance and the power of skepticism?
* Is there a difference between information privacy and data security?
* Practical (and easyish) first steps to managing personal privacy and data security.
* Why it is important to have a cybersecurity plan.
In the security and privacy journey of a thousand steps, this class will get you (and your library) moving in the right direction.
About the presenter:
Maurice Coleman [he/him/his] is the Principal of Coleman & Associates. As a trainer, coach, and keynote speaker, Maurice helps organizations improve their human processes and use of technology, expand their internal/external communications, and broaden their focus and implementation of EDI activities.
He has facilitated experiences for organizations such as Lyrasis, the American Library Association, Texas Library Association, WebJunciton, Library 2.0, the San Antonio Public Library, Urban Librarians Unite, the Library of Virginia, and PCI Webinars.
Since 2008, he has hosted and produced the long-running (and oldest) training/education and empowerment podcast T is for Training and is the Technical Trainer at a county library system located in Maryland. He was named a Library Journal Mover and Shaker in 2010.
