This webinar addresses the diverse needs of library professionals at various career stages, focusing on integrating AI technologies into libraries. The presentation explores the unique challenges of workforce development in the library sector, identifying and strategizing ways to overcome barriers to technology adoption. A significant emphasis is placed on adult learning principles, acknowledging the varied learning styles and experiences of adult learners.
Key topics include understanding AI fundamentals, overcoming psychological and institutional barriers, effective adult learning strategies in technology training, and implementing ethical AI practices. This program aims to equip librarians with the necessary skills and knowledge to “future-proof” their career.
Dr. Leo Lo serves as the Dean and Professor at the College of University Libraries and Learning Sciences at the University of New Mexico. He is also the President-Elect of the Association of College & Research Libraries (ACRL). Currently, he leads his university’s AI Empowerment Initiatives, which aim to elevate the community’s AI literacy and teach intelligent, responsible use of the technology. Dr. Lo holds a doctorate degree in Higher Education Management from the University of Pennsylvania, an MLIS from Florida State University, and master’s degrees in both Screenwriting and Survey Research.
