LILRC Webinar: Introduction to Bibliometric Research for Librarians
October 16 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am EDT
Bibliometrics, also known as bibliometric analysis of scientific literature, is one of the most popular data analysis techniques used among librarians. Although it originated from the library and information science research, nowadays it is commonly used among many other non-librarians to assess and evaluate certain literature or trend within a specific context. Proliferation of web-based indexes, particularly emergence of Scopus and Web of Science, made it easy to retrieve and analyze large volumes of bibliometric data. The purpose of this workshop is to introduce major bibliometric techniques to the participants and showcase some of the related published LIS literature to present examples. At the end of this workshop, each participant will be able to evaluate individual authors, institutions’, or countries’ scientific productivity, as well as examine the scientific growth or trend of any given research field by using bibliometric data.
