LILRC Webinar: Reopening Archives, Libraries, and Museums during COVID – Scientific Research and Risk Management

September 30, 2020 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm EDT

Jacob Nadal, Director for Preservation at the Library of Congress, will present the outcomes of the REALM: Reopening Archives, Libraries and Museums project and discuss how libraries are using this scientific knowledge to inform safe operating practices. A remarkable amount of research has been conducted on the novel coronavirus but this is still a very new and rapidly developing body of knowledge. All libraries, the Library of Congress included, need to consider how scientific literacy, risk management, and mission play into their operating plans. This talk will help to frame these issues and provide an opportunity for discussion.

Presenter: Jacob Nadal is the Director for Preservation at the Library of Congress. He was appointed to the position in July 2017. Nadal manages the work of the Directorate’s five Divisions — Binding and Collections Care, Collections Management, Conservation, Reformatting, and Research and Testing — and provides leadership for the Library’s stewardship of the national collections.
