Webinar: Being Rational About Summer Reading

May 25, 2021 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am EDT

Webinar Description:

Summer Reading is often a capacity-challenging exercise for many libraries. In 20**, Albany Public Library partnered with the school district and the Albany Promise to examine the program’s actual impact on the “summer slide.” The findings were not nearly as exciting as anyone expected. APL found out that the program does have an impact on students. However, that positive impact is overstated by the library community. We will look at how the library as an organization has changed its approach to summer reading and how other libraries are earnestly taking on the challenge of the summer slide.

About the Presenter:

Scott Jarzombek is a compelling, forward-thinking leader who serves as a strong advocate for any organization he leads. He is currently the Executive Director of the Albany Public Library, operating seven branches with a budget of $9.6 million and 146 staff. He is an adjunct lecturer at the University at Albany’s College of Emergency Preparedness, Homeland Security & Cybersecurity. He has served on several committees and boards, both for the city of Albany and in the field of library and information science.

Live captioning will be provided.

This webinar will be recorded and a recording will be shared with all registrants afterward.
