CANCELED – Webinar: Creating Cultures of Radical Vulnerability and Empathy in Libraries

September 14 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm EDT

This event has been canceled.

Webinar Description:

Through the lens of trauma-informed librarianship, this webinar will explore how librarians and library workers can create library cultures that center radical vulnerability and empathy as a pathway towards collective wellness, healing, and authenticity. We’ll unpack how LIS work cultures normalize and perpetuate ableism, pushing library workers and librarians who are survivors and/or have experienced trauma out of the field. As a community, we will learn about and discuss how we can be more intentional, authentic, and supportive of ourselves and our colleagues/comrades through practicing radical vulnerability and empathy.

About the Presenter:

Karina Hagelin (they/them) is a chronically ill and disabled queer femme librarian who is passionate about working with library workers and librarians who are committed to creating cultures that center healing through radical empathy, collective care, and social justice work. Blending their lived experiences and expertise on trauma-informed librarianship, they lead diverse groups of librarians and library workers through engaging, interactive, and informative webinars + workshops. Karina is currently based in Ithaca, New York, where they most recently worked as an Outreach and Instruction Librarian at Cornell University. You can find out more about their work on their website, www.karinakilljoy.com.

Live captioning will be provided.

This webinar will be recorded and a recording will be shared with all registrants afterward.
