QuickBooks Training

2022-23

The Central New York Library Resource Council Professional Development Award has allowed me to complete a class on Mastering Quickbooks Online. The class was virtual, and I watched my lessons in the mornings before work and studied from the handout. Some lessons were review, some were new, and some things I wish I had known when I started in my current position a year ago!

When I started at the Cazenovia Public Library in January of 2021, I had very little experience with Quickbooks. My coworker and I then oversaw the transition from Quickbooks Desktop to Quickbooks online, which meant that anyone in our organization who knew how to use the desktop version could no longer help performing tasks in the online version. We muddled along alright, but since starting the Quickbooks online class, I was immediately able to implement some of the lessons and improve my fluency in the program.

My class covered everything: keyboard shortcuts, how to do reconciliations, what reports are available, how to customize our forms, how to keep track of vendors and donors, and much more! Since taking the class I’ve been able to speed up the process for adding expenses, and I’m currently working on getting all of our donations and donors tracked in Quickbooks instead of a spreadsheet which has to be manually updated. Next up is cleaning up our vendor list and merging duplicates!

The resources I was provided through this class have been invaluable, and even now that it is complete, I am regularly referring back to my study guide for detailed instructions on how to perform tasks I hadn’t previously even known Quickbooks was able to perform. The CLRC Professional Development Award has been a massive help to me personally, as I am now certified as having mastered Quickbooks Online through Quickbooks, but also to the library as a whole as I am much more efficiently able to perform the tasks asked of me as a bookkeeper.
