“Stop Motion Video Creative Animation”


Please provide a brief narrative explaining your project and its outcomes.

Stik Bot set and props were selected and purchased. Kindle Fires were to be the cameras and storage hardware. It was discovered early in the project that the Kindle Fires would not be compatible with the Stik Bot software. These devises were returned and Samsung phones were purchased instead. The sets were constructed and props unwrapped.

The next steps were for the teens to storyboard their videos, learn the Stik Bot software and to use the phones as a video making device. During the making of the videos the teens soon realized the importance of the tripod for holding their phone/cameras still. A shaky hand made for inconsistent camera angles. The pace of staging the props and reading their script was important to create fluid movement and align their voice with the actions. The teens learned through trial and error that slowing down and taking note of the details was the key to successful movie making.

The teens supported each other when they got stuck. Teamwork!

Kim Rudwall was the facilitator of this activity. She thought the project would be self led, this was not the case. She needed to do a lot of trial and error to ensure that the students would succeed. It was not easy at times, they stuck with it and they have videos to show for their perseverance. The students were able to create videos and share them with others!
