LOEX 2026 Conference
Norfolk, VA
I was so grateful to be able to attend the LOEX conference for the first time thanks to CLRC’s support! As someone working towards becoming a research and instruction librarian after I finish my MLIS degree, this conference was hugely beneficial. I gained many new ideas for effective instructional strategies and got to connect with many librarians in my desired field.
Session highlights included a presentation on incorporating critical AI literacy into library instruction sessions, extending the CRAAP Test to strengthen students’ metaliteracy skills, using a “fearstorming” activity to gauge and assuage student anxieties about learning in order to build a stronger classroom rapport, and implementing a reverse-engineered AI activity in which students fact check an essay written by an AI chatbot using library resources. I am excited to try out some of these instructional strategies in the one-shot information literacy instruction sessions I teach for undergraduates at Syracuse University.
I also had the opportunity to present a poster encapsulating my own work in the field of information literacy. My poster detailed a project in which I developed modifications to the CRAAP Test designed to allow students to more effectively evaluate non-textual music resources such as scores and recordings. Presenting this poster to the LOEX attendees was an amazing experience. I received a lot of good feedback, had some great conversations with instruction librarians, and came away with some new lines of thinking for the project.
Attending LOEX exposed me to so many valuable new ideas that will directly benefit my instructional practice. I am thankful for CLRC’s financial support that made this wonderful learning opportunity possible.
