The Jervis Public Library in Rome, New York is seeking a tech-savvy Teens’ Services Librarian with a focus on customer service and dynamic, innovative programming for teens. And just in time for the Summer Reading Program! This is a full-time (37.5 hours per week) position and includes guiding a group of teens in Jervis’ Youth Advisory Committee, YAC, which is nearly 20 years old.

Nights and weekends are required; semi-regular travel for meetings and outreach events.

The Teens’ Services Librarian also participates in adult reference, book discussions, technology classes, and collection development.

Must have ALA Accredited master’s degree. Must be eligible for NYS Public Librarian’s certificate, which must be issued prior to date of hire as a professional librarian.

Jervis has circulation of just over 200,000 items per year, 10% of which is electronic. We feature special collections of items to borrow and are focused on simplifyig and streamlining processes so staff can spend more time on direct service from programming and outreach to one-on-one tech assistance.

The YA fiction collection is housed in a separate YA area with approximately 4,500 YA fiction titles. Non-fiction is filed with the adult collection and totals approximately 1,200 volumes. The collection has been recently weeded, updated, inventoried, and tagged for RFID circulation. It is a collection with heavy usage per volume and includes a YA graphic novel collection.

Jervis Library is located in Rome, NY, a city of approximately 32,000 that supports its library and expects creative services and programs through collaboration with many organizations and departments of the city and county. The city has four season recreation (including snowshoes that can be borrowed from the library), an active visual and performing arts community, and a variety of high tech employers. Rome features a low cost of living and is centrally located in the state with convenient access to Albany, Canada, and NYC.
