The Central New York Library Resources Council is offering up to 20 seats in a new course, “Trauma-Informed and Relational Care for Libraries.” Up to 20 CLRC members will complete the course modules individually and as a group. Offering this opportunity is something new for us and we’re hoping it allows you, as our members, to dive deeper into new principles and transform the way you do your work, rather than spending only an hour with the topic. Unlike our webinar offerings, this is only available to CLRC members.
Trauma-informed care asks, “What happened to you?” instead of “What’s wrong with you?” When we view people as experiencing challenges, as opposed to being problems, we foster a more compassionate environment. This course is designed to provide you knowledge, tools, and practices to relate to trauma with the utmost care from a systemic and individual lens. It goes beyond teaching you to be merely trauma-informed in libraries but aims to support you to become a trauma-informed human being who leads from a place of care.
The course provides 20+ hours of content, including individual and group work. Members chosen to participate in this course will complete course modules on their own and then meet as a group monthly for six months to discuss what we’re learning. There is a sample schedule below. It is subject to change based on the availability of participants.
July – Orientation
August – Introduction, Module 1, and Module 2
September – Module 3
October – Module 4
November – Module 5
December – Q & A with Nisha Mody, the creator of the course
The course has a $1250 value per seat but is being offered to CLRC members at no cost!
Applications will be accepted until June 24.
**If you are chosen for this course you are agreeing to attend six virtual group meetings. This course is subject to cancellation if we do not receive enough applications.**
