The CLRC Sustainability SIG Presents: Introduction to Drawdown

February 18, 2022 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am EST

Webinar Description:

Climate change is upon us and presents the biggest challenge of our time. Our survival and the survival of future generations on this planet depends on finding solutions to the full range of issues that climate change affects. Drawdown, an international project, seeks to find those solutions. While it is impossible to cover everything involved in this project in one sitting, this presentation will give a basic introduction to Drawdown, with the hope of inspiring the participants to dig deeper.

About the Presenters:

After graduating from Rutgers University in 1999, Scott Kushner moved to Syracuse in 2000. After a short stint at Gaylord Bros. (2000-2002), he became the director of the LaFayette Public Library, where he remained for 19 years, from which he retired in September of 2021.  Scott was part of the New York Library Association’s Sustainability Initiative and along with his colleague Maggie Foster (also part of the NYLA SI), cofounded and co-chairs what is now a Central New York Library Resource Council Special Interest Group (SIG) on Sustainability.

B. Maggie Foster is the Community Engagement and Adult/Teen Programming Coordinator for Liverpool Public Library, in Liverpool, New York. Her accomplishments include leading an awesome team of people, all passionate about libraries, from alphabetizing to weeding. Weeding time is the best, because then Maggie takes the books and gives them away as prizes during outreach! Or saves hardcovers from the trash bin to use during sustainability programs as a lesson in what libraries can and cannot recycle. Maggie enjoys and encourages others in the library profession to advocate for libraries, their role in the community, and our unique ability to motivate and inspire lifelong learners. She lives in Syracuse with her husband, three teenagers, and a cat.

Saptarshi Lahiri is a recent LIS graduate from Syracuse University’s iSchool, and he works as Library Clerk II at OCPL’s Beauchamp Branch in Syacuse’s Southside neighborhood. He is passionate about public libraries, helping people gain free-at-point-of-service access information, library technology and library services. He brings past expertise as a field ecologist and scholarly experience in the sustainability field, and is excited to explore the intersection of public libraries and sustainability issues for the benefit of the library community and the patrons they serve.

Live captioning will be provided.

This webinar will be recorded and a recording will be shared with all registrants afterward.
