This month New York Heritage is spotlighting the Frederick Lawrence Pomeroy Collection as one of its featured collections.   As Assistant General Traffic Manager with the New York Central Railroad, Frederick Lawrence Pomeroy (1855-1906) was a central figure in President Theodore Roosevelt’s trust-busting campaign.   Under the Interstate Commerce Act of 1887, which made the railroads the first industry subject to federal regulation, the New York Central Railroad was convicted of giving “rebates” to the American Sugar Company.  Both the railroad and Pomeroy were fined, and the letters in this collection reflect the impact of this conviction on Pomeroy and his family.

The American Pomeroy Historic Genealogical Association (the APHGA) was founded by Bill Pomeroy of Syracuse, NY, in order to provide an organization to communicate and collaborate family information regarding the descendants of Eltweed Pomeroy.  APHGA is a member of CLRC.
