The Vestal Public Library is seeking a dynamic individual to fill a full-time Youth Services Librarian position, to continue a popular and growing youth program.

The Youth Services Librarian is under the supervision of the director.

The main responsibilities are:
Facilitates visits to the Library to enhance the reading skills of children
Actively promotes our collections and reading through readers advisory and other innovative ways
Provides reference services and resource recommendations
Ensure that the Youth collection is diverse, current, relevant and meets the needs of the community
Develops and maintains content for the Library’s Facebook
Mentors Library staff in preparing and presenting youth programs
Assists with library operations, including all circulation issues, and opening/closing procedures
Take responsibility for the responsibility for the building in the absence of adult reference
Performs related duties as required

Abilities:
The candidate must have strong customer service skills
Work with people of all ages, especially those from pre-school to teen
Should have a working knowledge of children’s and young adult literature, trends and current technology
Develop and present story hours, summer programs, weekend programs for all ages
Write grants & press releases
Do statistics and reports
Be able to work as part of a team for the good of the library as a whole

Minimum qualifications:

Master’s Degree from an accredited Library and Information Science Program
Librarian I, specializing in Youth Services
Eligibility for New York State Public Librarian certification upon appointment

Salary:
$30,000-34,000 depending on experience
