MLA Webinar: An Essential Introduction to Retractions and Evaluating Research Quality

June 14, 2022 @ 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm EDT

Free

CLRC is offering our members up to 25 seats at the upcoming MLA Webinar, An Essential Introduction to Retractions and Evaluating Research Quality.

Health care providers, researchers, and scholars depend on a trustworthy scientific knowledge base. Article retraction rates are increasing. . . and so is their impact on the scientific knowledge base and health care practice.

Health science librarians have a vital role to play in identifying, and educating patrons in identifying, trustworthy research. If you work with scholarly literature, this webinar is essential.

You’ll gain an understanding of what a retraction means, how publications are retracted, and how to identify publications as being retracted. You’ll also learn how to use the REAPPRAISED checklist, a vital tool for evaluating the integrity of a publication. It will enable you to identify low-quality research, even if it’s not retracted.

You will be able to apply your learning from this webinar to many aspects of health science librarianship, from working on systematic reviews and meta-analyses to evidence-based medicine education and personal scholarship. The webinar may also inspire you to reach out to your institution’s research integrity office to find ways to partner and share this information.

This webinar is approved for Level II of the Systematic Review Services Specialization, which launches in 2023.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Explain the purpose of retractions, the retraction process, and the types of retractions
  • Describe resources and tools for identifying retracted articles
  • Use the REAPPRAISED checklist to evaluate the integrity of a publication

Audience

Any health professional who accesses, evaluates, or uses scholarly literature in research, clinical care, or personal scholarship, or who teaches on these topics, in short: All health care professionals.
