SCRLC Webinar: Academic Libraries in an Extraordinary Time

August 13, 2020 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am EDT

Description:
How is higher education responding to the global pandemic as well as the mobilization against antiblack racism? What role have libraries played, and how are they changing as a result? This presentation begins by examining the events of an extraordinary 2020, which saw libraries participate in a sudden migration away from in-person interaction while engaging racism in society and their history. We continue by exploring trends and plans for the next academic year, as colleges and universities decide to either resume remote education, reopen in some way, or hybridize the two. What challenges do we face as we seek to rethink our academic mission and operations? How are libraries supporting remote and HyFlex work? And what happens when 2020 accelerates previous trends acting upon the academy? Are we seeing a truly new, 21st century library emerge?”
