The New York Library Association’s Library Skills Academy

May to June 2021

The Library Skills Academy was very informative in providing a history of libraries and an in-depth look at library operations. I gained a strong understanding of customer service and how I can apply it in the academic setting. The Academy has provided me with a greater understanding of accessing and promoting diverse library materials and resources for all patrons. Some of the highlights of the Academy included the stories shared by colleagues, from other libraries, about their experiences and how they handle certain situations. The most notable session for me was Outreach Promo and Advocacy. It’s given me a better understanding of the importance of outreach programs and their community impact. It was a very worthwhile use of my time and I’m glad I attended it.
